Game Startup Tips

While still in the Alternate Start dungeon, consider doing the following:

  • In the game, disable all auto-saves - save on wait, travel, etc. Refrain from using quick saves. Auto saves and quick saves are not good places to continue a modded game from. Use full saves only. Be sure to save frequently. CTDs still happen even with a stable modded game.
  • Note from LOOT: "Mount Support must be switched to Riding Support Only, OR disable horse on a per-follower basis in Nether's Follower Framework settings for Convenient Horses to function correctly with Nether's Follower Framework."
  • MCM suggested settings:
    • Start Frostfall and lower the exposure rate to 0.3 for a more realistic experience, or 0.4 or 0.5 if you want more of a challenge. The default of 1.0 is pretty hardcore - and not very realistic in my opinion. I grew up in an area with some harsh winters, and it's not hard to dress sensibly. I only want to die of exposure in a game if I act like an idiot and run around in my undies.
    • Set iHUD to use toggle for the compass.
    • Turn on OBIS,
    • Under Complete Alchemy, enable basic needs.
    • Enable Death Alternative.
    • Change the setting in Quick Light to "bright." Which setting you use doesn't affect sneaking - only whether or not your light is on.
    • Start Holidays. Disable courier service, unless you want a courier stopping you for stuff that's "for your hands only" every time the town celebrates a holiday. Looks like that's it. Got to go.
    • Set the weapon locations you prefer in the XPMSE menu.
  • In your inventory, open the book "Select Class" and set your birth signs. Note that Fourth Era signs allow you to still use standing stones.
  • For the love of Mara, do not use the Creation Club or Mods menus from the game main menu. This is an either/or situation - use the game's built-in system or DIY as you've done here.
